The Tarnița reservoir is located between the communes of Râșca, Mărișel and Gilau, 15 km from Cluj-Napoca. With an area of ​​approximately 215 ha, a length of over 8 km and a maximum depth of over 70 meters, Lake Tarnița is one of the most popular tourist areas in Cluj County. It is fed by the waters of the Someșului Cald Valley (one of the tributaries of Someșului Mic).

The main activities carried out on the lake are fishing, swimming, boating. Most of them take place in an unorganized setting, as leisure activities. However, there are also associations with a sports profile that periodically organize swimming competitions (see Traversarea Tarniței) or sport fishing.

There is the possibility of renting sailboats, kayaks, stand up paddle boards.

For hikers, the Tarnița lake area offers some of the most beautiful viewpoints in the country, and the surrounding landscape can be discovered in any season.
